What the case was about
The lawsuit covered two incidents: a former Cash App Investing employee who accessed customer reports without permission (disclosed in April 2022), and unauthorized access to some accounts in 2023 through recycled phone numbers. It also covered complaints that fraudulent transfers weren't resolved properly. Block and Cash App Investing denied wrongdoing and settled without admitting liability.
How much you'll get
There's no flat amount. Payouts depend on what you documented in your claim. The $2,500 maximum applied only to people with proof of losses, such as bank statements or police reports. Legal fees and admin costs came out of the fund first, and reported average payouts are well below the maximum.
How you're paid
You're paid the way you chose on your claim form. Claimants report receiving money by Venmo, Zelle, prepaid card and paper check. Paper checks expire 90 days after they're issued, so cash yours promptly.
How to tell it's real
- A real payment references Salinas v. Block or CashAppSecuritySettlement.com.
- It never asks for a fee, your Cash App PIN or a sign-in code.
- Cash App and Block aren't running the payments. Questions go to the settlement administrator at (866) 615-9740.

Other Cash App cases
This settlement is separate from other actions against Block. In January 2025, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Block to pay refunds to some users over how it handled fraud disputes, and a group of state financial regulators fined Block $80 million over anti-money-laundering controls. Those programs have their own rules and timelines; check the CFPB's site for the refund program.
How to protect your Cash App account
- Turn on the Security Lock so every payment needs your PIN or Face ID.
- Never share a sign-in code. Cash App support will never ask for it.
- Make sure the phone number on your account is still yours. Recycled numbers were part of this case.
- Review linked cards and bank accounts and remove ones you don't use.
- Turn on notifications for every transaction.

FAQ
Can I still file a claim? No. The deadline was November 18, 2024, and late claims aren't accepted.
When will I get paid? The settlement website says payments to approved claims are issued in October 2026.
Why did I get less than $2,500? $2,500 was the cap for documented losses. Most approved claims get less, because fees and costs come out of the fund and the rest is split among approved claims.
Who do I contact about my payment? The settlement administrator, at (866) 615-9740 or CashAppSecuritySettlement.com. Cash App support can't help with settlement payments.
My claim was denied. Can I appeal now? No. The settlement website says deficiency responses and appeals have been completed.
Will I get a tax form for my payment? Reimbursements of out-of-pocket losses usually aren't income, but check any form you receive and ask a tax professional if you're unsure.
Do I have to keep using Cash App to get paid? No. You're paid by the method you chose on your claim, which could be a check or another payment app.
Is this the same as the CFPB Cash App refund? No. That's a separate program from a January 2025 CFPB order, with its own eligibility and timeline.
