Best Bank for a Brand-New LLC
A new LLC is a specific banking problem. The entity exists, it has an EIN, and it has no revenue, no history and often no clients yet. Some banks treat that as ordinary; others want evidence of trading before they will approve an account.
What follows is how to choose, then the four accounts that reliably open for a brand-new entity.
Fees and features checked 20 Sep 2026. Bank pricing moves without notice. Confirm the monthly fee, the cash deposit allowance and the wire pricing on the provider's own fee schedule before you apply — and tell us if you find a figure here out of date.
Choose on three numbers, not on a list
Before comparing anything, get three figures from your own plan: monthly cash deposits, monthly transaction count, and the lowest balance you expect to hold. Those decide the answer more than any feature.
- Cash above a few thousand a month? You need a bank with branches, and the cash allowance is the line to compare.
- No cash, under 200 transactions? A no-monthly-fee online account wins on cost and there is little to weigh against it.
- Planning to borrow within two years? Open at an institution that lends to businesses your size, and start the relationship now.
Four that open for a new entity
An online-first business account with no monthly fee
The default for a service business, consultancy or online seller. No monthly fee, no balance minimum, application approved in a day, and the software side — invoicing, virtual cards, multiple sub-accounts for tax and profit — is usually better than a bank's. The constraint is cash: deposits go through a retail network for a fee, if at all. Ours are listed in best business checking for an LLC.
An online account that pays interest on the balance
Some business accounts pay interest on checking rather than making you keep a separate savings account. Worth it if you carry a meaningful operating balance; irrelevant if you run at $3,000. Check whether the rate applies to the whole balance or only a tier, and whether it requires a minimum monthly card spend.
A national bank with branches
Choose this if you handle cash, need certified checks, or want a bank you can walk into. Expect a monthly fee in the $15 to $30 range, waivable on a balance condition, and a free cash deposit allowance in the $5,000 to $25,000 range. The waiver terms matter more than the fee — see how waivers work.
A local credit union or community bank
The underrated option for a business that will want credit. Lending decisions are made locally, by someone who can look at the business rather than only the score, and fees tend to be lower than at a national bank. The trade is thinner software and, sometimes, no same-day ACH.
What not to choose on
The sign-up bonus. A $200 or $300 opening bonus usually requires a balance held for several months and locks you into an account priced wrongly for your activity. If the account is right, take the bonus. Never the other way round.
Also ignore the advertised APY on a business checking account if your working balance is small. One percent on $4,000 is $40 a year, which is less than one month of a fee you failed to waive.
Getting approved with no history
Have the articles of organisation, the EIN letter and the operating agreement to hand, make sure the entity name matches character for character across all three, and be ready to identify every owner at 25% or more. If a bank asks for evidence the business is real, an invoice, a signed contract or a live website is usually enough. Full list on how to open a business bank account.

Common questions
Can a brand-new LLC open a bank account with no revenue?
Yes. Banks are verifying the entity and its owners, not underwriting it. Some ask for evidence the business is real — an invoice, contract or website — for a very new entity.
Should a new LLC use an online bank or a branch bank?
Online if the business is cashless and mostly electronic. A branch bank if you deposit cash, need certified checks, or expect to borrow from the same institution.
Do I need an operating agreement to open an account?
Not always for a single-member LLC, but many banks ask for one, and it is quick to produce. Bring it.
How many accounts should a new LLC have?
Two is usually enough: one checking for operations, one savings for the tax reserve. Sub-accounts beyond that are a bookkeeping preference, not a requirement.
